Nightlife

If you visit Bochum you should go to the Bermuda3eck. Its the best place if you want to party or just relax from the hard day you have had. Just 5 minutes from the main station there are pubs, bars, cafes, restaurants and discos, one near the other. And one time a year there is the big Music Festival ”Bochum Total” in the Ruhrgebiet. There are 70 bands on 4 Open-air stages for free.

Nature

The Kemander Lake is the meeting point for all the sailors, bikers, inline skater, jogger and walker. The big green places, the cafes and restaurants are a good place to stay and relax.

The botanic garden contains a lot of different exotic flowers from south Africa and Australia.

A special attraction is the Chinese garden, which takes you to a magic place with all the little pavillons and pools which makes you think you are in China.

For Kids

The Malakowtower and the machine hall from “Zeche Hannover” are still in good shape. It´s still a good sight to see the unity of mountain factory, account city pit and colony. A special attraction for kids is the mountain factory, especially for kids. The kids are able to “support” the Zeche-Knirps.

The animal park, in the heart of the city-park, contains over 3000 different animals. The aquarium, the terrarium and the fossils are the main character of the park. In a coral reef pool are a lot of colourful fish and two black-tip-sharks, rarely crocodiles, snakes and grip-birds. They give the little kids the opportunity to have a biology lesson in the nature.

Culture

Bochum is a mix of a few nice museums, like the “Deutsches Bergbaumuseum”, for example. Its 20 meters under the earthground, where you can get a real view of all tunnels and shafts. And the Zeis-Planetarium-Bochum, which takes you on a trip to the Galaxy where you can view all these nice and bright shining stars.

In the “Eisenbahnmuseum” you can see more then 200 historic vehicles. There`s one special famous vehicle , its the dinner carriage from the Orient Express from 1908.

The “Jahrhunderthalle” reminds you of the iron and steel process of Bochum and later it became a machine hall. Today the hall is under monument protection and since 2003 its the main location for the “Ruhr Triennale” and the “Festivalhaus NRW”.

One of the three best and famous German speaking stages is the “Schauspielhaus Bochum”, where the famous Saladin Schmidt, Hans Schalla, Peter Zadeck and Claus Peymann amazed the crowd in the seventies and eighties with their excellent shows.

Satrlight Express is the most successful Musical in the whole world. The visitors will see the actors driving in their Roller Blades around the crowd.
